So Sorry - No Excuses

It's no excuse I know for not posting. But I've been super busy here in SW Florida. I'm getting a manuscript ready, had to deal with storm coming through and trying to maintain sanity.
All that aside, I do miss posting so I decided to take a few minutes this morning to write some current thoughts.
I recently read a post by a writer who said she had worked very hard on a piece and entered a contest, finding herself one of the finalist. This is very important in the life of an author. Winning contests lend credibility to one's work and a first place prize might capture the attention of an editor or agent.
Anyway, this woman had worked very very hard getting her entry in shape and had made it to the finals only to find the contest had decided her particular genre wouldn't be judged any longer. She was devastated.
But truly trying to make lemonade from lemons, she spoke of the fact that she didn't write to get published or to win prizes but wrote from her heart, and she wrote because it made her happy.
As I delve into my manuscript, hoping to capture the attention of an agent, I think about her words, and know that's the real reason why I spend so much time at it too. Because if a novelist doesn't write from her heart and isn't happy doing it, it's going to show in the words.
