I was raised by parents who believed one should always look their best no matter where they were going so as a teenager, I had to forgoe the jeans and put on dresses whenever I went out in public.
As much as I balked, I came to realize that my parents were right. A first impression is the one that strangers will hold even after they've gotten to know the wonderful you.
So with this simple logic, I always try to look my best wherever I go but it isn't always easy. The rules have clearly changed. A business meeting was once a dress up affair, suits, ties, jackets, and dress shoes. This morning I read about the new C.E.O. casual in the Wall Street Journal. There is a whole new look out there.
I have a business meeting in a few hours. I have my skirt and blouse and dress shoes on. I don't know if I'll be over dressed or under dressed, I really don't care. Hopefully, I'm presenting a professional image and with a good handshake and a few kind words, I believe my meeting will be a success.
